Porsche Breaks Ground on Synthetic Fuel Plant

Petroleum Service Company

Porsche has officially broken ground in southern Chile on their new factory which is set to produce synthetic fuel beginning 2022. The plant will produce synthetic fuel for race cars, sports cars, and classic cars first. The production process is complex, involving using wind power to split water into oxygen and hydrogen before filtering in CO2 and combining it with the hydrogen to create synthetic methanol that can be used in a position engine. The current plan is to fuel the cars racing in the Mobil 1 SuperCup series in 2022 with the new fuel, before later rolling it out to road cars.
