There is a lot of buzz about electric vehicles in the market. The sale of EVs globally increased by around 168% in the first half of 2021 compared to last year in 2020. Almost 2.65 million units of electric vehicles were sold worldwide. At some point of time in the future, could we see the following being spoken from an electric vehicle owner. “Fill my vehicle up with 15 kilowatts (kW) of premium charge.”
But this is still a long way ahead into the future. Electric cars are still in the budding stage and are relatively new for everyone. Yes, it is a fact that major players like Tesla are speeding up with the developments and introducing new battery technology and vehicle designs that match the family fuel cars existing in the market. Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) predicts that by 2030, nearly 4 million EVs will be delivered and will represent only a quarter of the vehicles sold in the United States. There will still be a lot of gas-powered cars in 2030, much more than the number of EVs.
The introduction of electric vehicles does not mean that it is the end of the road for gas-powered vehicles, gas and pumping stations, and of course, the petroleum industry. Another major question mark raised about EV charging is how many people really have the time to wait for charging their vehicle. In the case of filling fuel in the car, a person is actively involved in the entire process from start to end. But this may not be true for EV charging.
There are more than 40 million Americans filling up their vehicle tanks every day. This means 40 million + pumping transactions in a day.
